I am sure there are camphorlaurel trees somewhere in Europe, but I have just spent several weeks travelling from Prague up and down the Danube and Rhine and from Amsterdam to Paris.....
And unlike in Japan, saw not a single one!

Saw some trees however, some beautiful doors and carvings and lots and lots of Oak used everywhere.

Large Horse Chestnut in Prague

Quartersawn Oak carved church pews in Budapest

Cobblestones were noisy with carriages, so timber was used to keep the noise down close to palaces

Parquetry flooring was common in monasteries and palaces

Re-usable coffin.......

Beautiful doors Melk monastery

Nice line of cedars at Salzburg or somewhere......

Timber carving at somewhere.....(.... after a while all towns merge)

Finally..... a use for pine

Euro veneers

More Euro veneers

Timber upright around 1 metre square. Oak I think. A pillar in an old salt warehouse in Regensburg.

Carved dining seats at a restaurant in Nuremburg

Logs on the Rhine

Same logs different angle, not much size but..... still oak and other logs

Carving at Rothenburg

Oak gates Rothenberg dated 1500s, showing that not only our hardwoods can stand the weather

Loreli Rock, just to say I've been there and withstood any sirens.....
